January 2024 Teacher Training in Mexico

We’re thrilled to share the latest success story from Signs and Smiles and our commitment to excellence in deaf education beyond borders. In early January 2024, we traveled to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, providing crucial teacher training services to 20 dedicated educators from the Mexican states of Guanajuato and Querétaro.

Here’s a snapshot of the training:

  • Duration: A comprehensive 6-day program, immersing teachers – both deaf and hearing – in evidence-based approaches to educate deaf students from birth to 12th grade.
  • Topics Covered: From language development to early intervention and cognitive scaffolding, our curriculum delved into the core principles of effective education for deaf children.

We continue to build on our success in supporting deaf education throughout Latin America and beyond:

  • Success: The training garnered praise, equipping educators with tools and strategies for their classrooms throughout central Mexico.
  • Partnership: Signs and Smiles is excited to embark on a two-year partnership with EEESMA, a special education school in San Miguel de Allende. This collaboration, generously funded by Rotary International, signifies a commitment to sustained growth and impact.

We believe in the power of education to create positive change, and this initiative exemplifies our dedication to excellence and equity in education for deaf students.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
